On Saturday, January 25, 2025, in the presence of the supervisor of Zakho Independent Adminstration, Mr. Guhdar Shekho, the U.S. Consul General in Erbil - Kurdistan Region, Mr. Steve Bitner, visited the University of Zakho. The Consul General was welcomed by the President of the University of Zakho, Dr. Nadhim S. Abdulaziz, along with the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Jassim M. Abdo, Vice President for Students Affairs, Dr. Ramadhan J. Mstafa, Dean of the College of Science, Dr. Diyar A. Bleej, Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Sattar J. Haji, Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Nawfal R. Hussein, and Director of International Relations, Dr. Nizar I. Ali.

This event was organized to officially launch the “Access English Language Program” which is funded by the U.S. Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region and implemented by Amideast Organization. The program, hosted at the University of Zakho, will run for over two years and will benefit more than 100 school students from 7th and 8th grades from low-income backgrounds. Participants will receive free English language training, along with numerous activities aimed at fostering the personal, educational, and technological development. Additionally, they will participate in voluntary work and scientific excursions in and around Zakho.
